Modules 5 and 6 Back / Next |
Always do the On Your Own questions and look up the answers afterwards. I don't always include the lab writing assignments. You should assign those yourself and encourage your child to do a good job. Sometimes, I have assigned reading the follow-up section to the experiment on the next day. You can change this if you wish. We generally did a writing assignment after most of the experiments and if the follow-up reading was not long, we would read that too.

You should already have all the supplies needed for module #5. Make certain that you still have your 2-liter plastic soda bottle. The bottle needs to be clear and the label needs to be removed. Make certain that you have a good zip-lock plastic sandwich bag. You'll need to make some room in your freezer for experiment 5.2. |

For the first experiment in module #6, you'll need some strong string. The list suggests using kite nylon string or any reasonably strong string. Keep in mind that the string has to be place in the ear for this experiment, so do not choose any string that might damage the ear. Plus this experiment can be very difficult for your child to do alone. You will need to be the one to jingle the spoons while your child holds the strings to his/her ears. Other supplies needed for module 6 are: 1.5 volt battery; a steel or iron nail; metal paper clip; aluminum foil; hard boiled egg; a marker that will write on egg shell; butter knife; two metal spoons; large sink; water. |

*Reminder* for module 7 you will need to find out from what source that you will be getting weather information from. You'll need to know on a daily basis: the amount of rain; the high and low temperature; the barometric pressure. You can get this from the web. I suggest checking out a library book that has large photographs of clouds before beginning module 7. The weather data involves identifying and naming cloud formations. It would be very helpful to have model photographs of clouds. Try to get as many examples as possible. |
