Blog Software

I’ve change blog software. I was using Wordpress, and I’m not going to complain about it, it is good software. As of today I am using Textpattern, a cms [content management system], which I find easier to manage in ways that are important to me.

One thing that is important to me is skinning the blog to look like my website and, as you can see, this blog looks like my website. My website is THE website, my blog is a tiny part useful for syndication. In website design, it’s important for a website to have a continuous look from page to page. There was no way I was going to bend THE website to look like my blog. So now my blog fits into that rule of website design. I’m happy with that.

That’s all! Oh wait, that is not all. I’m limiting commenting time to 7 days unless I change it later. I get too much spam to leave all of the commenting forms open all of the time. So if you read my blog and have something to say, please go ahead and say it while the comment form is open.

  1. Donna,

I just wanted to thank you for all your helpful pages. I am not an organized person, but with four children, I need to be, but didn’t have the time to do all the things that you have done. You make it so easy for very busy mothers like me. Thank you.

Have you thought about doing a form for website addresses, passwords for those sites, secret questions and answers, and user ID’s? I’ve looked all over the internet and can’t seem to find anything to fit in my notebook!

    Thanks again!

  2. Hi Crystal,

I have a form for internet information such as websites and passwords that’s not been published online. I made it years ago for my 1/2 sized binder. I might have one in full size too; I just can’t remember. I hope to get most of my previously unpublished resources online over the next 2 or 3 years.

    Thank you for writing. =)

  3. Hey Donna,

It’s me Sandra from the old DY forum. I wanted to thank you for being a wonderful resource to homeschoolers like myself on a budget and most importantly for being a friend.

I love the new look of your blog since the last time I was here.

We moved our blog to blogspot. Take care!

  4. Hi Donna,

Just checking things out. I have been trying to get ready for high school and so have been browsing your pages quite a bit. Thank you for saving me hours of planning with your Apologia schedule! What a gift!

I also noticed that you put some of the old forums up. That was fun to read too. Hope all is well!

  5. Hi Donna,

Just what I needed for a new project, a horizontal, printable, monthly calendar! Thank you so much.

I haven’t visited your site for more than a year, and there seems to be so much more than there used to be. And it’s FREE. Love it! I’ll be back to explore more.

Once again, thank you for the calendar.

  6. I remember the internet info sheets, “Net-formation”. I keep some of them in my handy-dandy notebook. After years of use, they are looking a little messy, so I decided to redo them. I couldn’t find them online or on the CD, so I had to make my own (gasp!).

Your website keeps looking better all the time!

  7. Hi Sheri, Gasp!! You had to make your own?? =0

(Net-formation is in the Freestyle Planner.)

  8. Wow! Your website is great and I appreciate all of your organizational tools. I am an organization junkie so I have spent countless hours creating my own forms and simplifiers.

I am so excited about your grade and attendance book though, I have been in the process of creating something like this (although not nearly as fabulous) and was not even close. I have two that will be entering high school in the next couple years and want to have all the bugs worked out of my system before hand.

One question, and I don’t want to sound greedy. How do I update the calendar/attendance for future years?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Kelly

  9. Kelly, save a new file for each year. I named my files after my kids and the year, for example: holly_03-04.

Change the dates/year at the information tab. See this page for an image: http://donnayoung.org/forms/planners/g-a-pages/qstartinfo.htm
