Ecofont

Would you like to use less ink? Try the ecofont. Ecofont is reported to use up to 20 per cent less ink. The developer, SPRANQ1, placed small holes in the letters as much as possible without adversely affecting readability. Ecofont is free to download and use.
1SPRANQ developed the ecofont based on a hunch of Colin Willems
Under The Microscope
I tried the font and below you will find my unscientific results.
I compared ecofont to verdana. I printed a sample using MS Word, my ink jet printer, and 20lb 92 paper. I placed the samples under the microscope at 4x and took a few photographs with my digital camera.
Verdana Font

Ecofont
The ecofont appears to have used less ink.
Scanner
I placed both samples in my epson flatbed scanner and scanned them at the same time, making one single image.

The contrast and readability of the ecofont looks good in this picture even when shown next to the verdana sample.
Eyeballs
Holding the samples in my hand and looking at them, it is hard to tell the difference.
Excellent work, SPRANQ, and thank you.

That is quite impressive, Donna.
I may have to see about downloading that onto my laptop since that is what I print from.
