This is my second TOC Planner layout for the elementary or pre-junior high books that are published by Apologia Educational Ministries, Inc and authored by Jeannie Fulbright. I had previously made the layout as shown in the TOC Planner article but I had doubts that the first layout would work well for this particular curriculum. I was not sure if the second layout idea was a good one either, so I bought one of Fulbright's books. While reading it, I decided that the second idea was the better one. Today I started on the new design. It is not exactly how I had envisioned the planner, but it is close. The idea behind it is simple. Each page has lists and a place to make notes for a chapter. You, the teacher, should read the chapter and make notes. On the right side is a place for lists. You could place these items in the list as you come across them in the text: Bible verse locations, words that the author made bold in the chapter, roots words, and so forth.
Of course, this is not like a regular planner in which you write Monday and page numbers. You can use the planner that way in Notes, but I believe that might be a waste of time. I could write more about that, but instead I would rather that you read the author's own words about planning in the Introduction under Lesson Increments.
In my opinion, the one thing that should be noted are the locations of the narration questions. These are not in the lists provided on the planners or the in table of contents of the books. You should note them and possibly highlight them to make sure that you are prepared to listen to your child discuss them.
Okay, that is all I will write now. I have two planners completed, Exploring Creation with Astronomy and Exploring Creation with Zoology 1, but they are not online yet.
