Monday, Aug. 27, we had the first day of our last year of homeschooling. When my first child was in his last year of homeschooling, I felt rather sad. This time around, it is different. I will be completely finished and I think I am looking forward to being finished.
My daughter has only four subjects, one of them will last for a semester.
This is her schedule.
- 6:00 Get Up
- 6:30 Exercise
- 7:30 Breakfast
- 8:15 Economics (1 semester)
- 9:00 Art III (2 hours minimum each day)
- 11:00 Japanese II (45 minutes minimum each day)
- 12:00 Lunch
- 1:00 English IV (2 hours minimum each day)
This is what she is using.

What Ever Happened to Penny Candy by Richard Maybury
Our first day went very well; the schedule seemed very generous. For exercise, we lifted weights, I might write more about that later. I might also write more about the homemade art class and the English class. For now, I have run out of time and must go!

Congratulations! I am at the opposite end of this journey. 2nd year HSing a 9yo son and a 3yo daughter. I hope to have your outlook when I get to the other end of this journey. π
Michielle says
Looks wonderful!!! I love the books, will have to make a note of them for us for later
Tressa says
That is a great schedule! Just what a senior in high school should be doing. I hope that our senior years looks as good. π
Donna Young says
The best part is what is not in there.. math and science! π
Elaine says
Donna,
I so agree w/you – “The best part is what is not in there.. math and science!” π
Not my favorite subjects to teach or do. π
appliejuice says
I looks great. I have been wanting to ask how she is doing in Japanese. π
Let us know how you like Learn to Write the Novel Way.
Whatever Happened to Penny Candy is on Matthew’s list for highschool, but I have a few years yet. By that time the book will be called, Whatever Happened to the Dollar Candy. π
Donna Young says
Holly has already finished reading Whatever Happened to Penny Candy Her comment was, “I feel smarter and what I read in American history last year makes sense now.” π Then I dragged out my pile of ’60’s Kennedy half-dollar coins to eye-ball. She says Kennedy looks like he has a mohawk hair-do. While I had the coins out, I gave her my one and only Japanese coin. I’ve had it for decades and I do not remember who gave it to me
She has a B average so far this week in Japanese. π
She is working well with Learn to Write the Novel Way so far, but then she has a strong desire to write a novel; it is why I chose this curriculum. I think it would not be a good fit for a child who harbors no deep desire to write a novel. She has a tetralogy loosely planned and is planning to write the first book of her tetralogy this school year.

“She has a tetralogy loosely planned and is planning to write the first book of her tetralogy this school year.” Way cool! π
“I think it would not be a good fit for a child who harbors no deep desire to write a novel.” That would be Matthew. π

I just wanted to thank you for all the great resources on your site. It is such a blessing and a relief to know I can find what I need there! (even when I misplace the CD I ordered a few years ago)
Thanks so much for helping us all!

You’ve put a lot of time and energy into this site, that is very obvious. Just one quick comment. As a teacher, I must say it is very sad that there is no math and science in the schedule I saw. In this day and age it is essential.
Donna Young says
Don’t worry about it. My daughter is always gaining knowledge in all areas of education even when they are not a part of her course of study.
Denise says
That looks amazingly simple. Do you have more schedules? Did your DD finish all the math and calculus already? I have 2 9th graders, a 7th and 1st grader this year, but have SO many “classes”. I would like to get more organized and streamlined.

Hi Denise,
We have had a lot of schedules. A new one for each year and sometimes the schedule gets readjusted at some point. My daughter has finished all of her high school math.
I understand about having a lot of classes! We are so happy that this year is light. She will be able to devote more time to what is important to her. (her writing)
Tresses says
Donna, that is precious! “A comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush” always made me giggle inside. Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny are favorites in our house, too.
