When setting up the High School V Planner, the Data sheet is the first place to go. For the most part, filling in Data will be easy. You will enter information such as name, address, some dates, class names, credits, book titles, how many grading terms to use along with which term starts the second semester, etcetera. I will go over some of those things, but not in this post; this post is about the option that you are given with four of the S-Sheets.
Classes – Full or Split
The High School V Planner has 10 S-Sheets per school year. Four of the s-sheets are set up so that any one or more of them can be used as either a full year subject or a semester subject or two different semester subjects. In the screenshot below you can see the drop-down list in row 43. I’ve selected Full for two of the classes and Split for S7 and S9. S7 and S9 are names of S-Sheets. The names are listed in the far left column in the screenshot.
S7 is set as Split and I’ve entered two class names, one for the 1st semester and one for the 2nd semester.
Physical Education is entered as the first semester class.
Horticulture is entered as the second semester class.
S9 is set as Split and Health is entered into the 2nd semester slot. No class is entered into the 1st semester slot. This is just a scenario to show that the 1st semester slot can be empty.

If a class will be held in the second semester then it should be entered into the second semester slot instead of the first semester slot.
Placing the semester classes in the correct slot shows on the transcripts. In the screenshot below, you can see how the information is displayed for split s-sheets. The grades and credits appear in the correct column.

Lesson Plans for Semester Classes and The S-Sheets
The S-Sheets that are designed to be either split or full are the ones that end with the numbers 7, 8, 9, 10. Those S-sheets have two distinct areas for lesson plans. The upper part is for first semester plans and the lower part is for second semester plans. This means that the lesson plans for the class named Health, in this example, must be placed in the area that is for the second semester. If no class is entered for the 1st semester of a Split S-Sheet – then leave the 1st semester area empty.
This is important- Even when using the “split” s-sheet as a full year class, the lesson plans must be divided between the two semester sections on the sheet - illustrated in image below.

Split S-Sheet – Used as Full – Lesson Plans for 2nd semester placed in correct area.
The reason that it is important to place the lesson plans in the correct part of the sheet is related to record keeping. Second semester work should go into the second semester grade records area. This important reason is only important if you are using the term grade calculators on this particular S-Sheet.
What if – When using a split sheet as Full as the first semester if over, there are still lesson plans unfinished in the 1st semester area?
The unfinished plans will have to be moved into the 2nd semester area. This will involve copying and pasting. I do not recommend that you do this “exclusively” inside the V Planner because you might overwrite 2nd semester plans. If you are very meticulous, you can copy and paste exclusively inside the V Planner, but this is what I recommend – (It is what I would do)

Open Notepad (windows text editor – it’s usually found in Accessories)
Notepad is a text editor, and if you have a different text editor that you’ve installed and prefer to use, open it. A text editor is not the same as a word processor - don’t do this with “Word.”
- Copy the uncompleted 1st semester plans. Don’t copy any empty rows that are under the plans.
- Paste them into Notepad.
- Press the enter key once (so that the cursor is on the next empty line).
- Copy the 2nd semester plans.
- Paste them into Notepad (they should be directly under the pasted 1st semester plans.)
- Copy all of the contents in Notepad (Ctrl A)
- Paste into the 2nd semester area of the S-Sheet.
If it pasted all of the plans correctly, that’s good.
If it didn’t, Undo (Ctrl Z) and start over.
