GS-QP – The High School V Planner has 3 grade scales that may be viewed and adjusted at the GS-QP sheet.
GS stands for grade scale. QP stands for quality points.
The three default grade scale are
A 94 – 100; B 86 – 93; C 78 – 85; D 70 – 77; F 69 – 0
A 90 – 100; B 80 – 89; C 70 – 79; D 60 – 69; F 59 – 0
A 93 – 100; B 82 – 92; C 71 – 81; D 60 – 70; F 59 – 0

The Grade Scales May be Changed
There are two ways to change the grade scales.
- Mathematically by changing the spread number. The spread numbers are in column I
(in the screen shot, they are shown above in the light teal colored cells) - Overwriting the actual number in the rows labeled Average.
Please note that option #2 will overwrite the code that makes the spread work – but that doesn’t matter. The important thing is that you get the grade scale that you want.
This ends the information regarding the GS-QP sheet, what follows below are details about where one selects the grade scales and the quality point scales for each class.
Selecting QP per Class
Each S-Sheet has a drop down list, or two, where one may choose from GPA, AP, and Honors. The typical selection will be GPA and it is the default selection, which means that all S-Sheets in a new planner will have GPA selected. The location to select the QP per class will depend on the Academic Term Length of the S-Sheet - Full School Year or Split into Two Semesters. Six of the S-Sheets are designed to serve a full school year length. Four of the S-Sheets are designed to be either full or split. Below are two screen shots that show where the QP drop-down lists are located on the two types of S-Sheets.

Note: When using the QP scale for AP or HON be certain to prepare or obtain the documentation that will show why the student is earning extra points. Edited to add – Document the class “in case” the information is requested from the colleges where the student applies. I’m not certain what form the documentation would take, but I imagine it would be, at minimum, a detailed course syllabus.
Selecting a Grade Scale for Each Class

Each S-Sheet has one or two drop-down lists that allow you to choose a grade scale for the class. The default grade scale is the first one, “GS 1″.

In the case of grade scales, knowing that GS 1 is default has some meaning, and I will write about that below. To select a grade scale for an S-Sheet look in Column U near the top of the sheet. Either one drop-down will show or two will show. Two drop-down lists will display if the S-Sheet is split.
GS 1 is Default – On the following reports I have added formulas that will add a reference mark if the grade scale for a class is not the default grade scale. The reports that have the reference marks are
- Transcript
- Transcripts 1 through 4

A cropped section of the transcript showing the reference mark and the optionally displayed grade scale.
This isn’t the end of the story regarding the reference marks on the transcripts. You have the option to remove the grade scale reference marks or change them. That option is weirdly placed in the sheet named Tips.
GS 1 is Default in Summary - I recommend that if the default grade scale is not right for most or all of your student’s classes then alter GS 1 (the first grade scale) at the GS-QP sheet instead of changing all of the drop-down lists at the S-Sheets and altering the reference mark options at Tips.
