V Planner V.2 is Available

After many delays caused by things such as rotting floors, plumbing problems, and tornadoes, I am finally able to release version 2 on my V Planner.

If you are unfamiliar with the V Planner — it is an XLS file [a spreadsheet] and with it you can manage your lesson plans, grades, attendance, and a few non-school things for up to four children. I made the file in Microsoft Excel and that is the program that it works best in, and while it might work in other spreadsheet programs, I cannot personally vouch for that.

The new features in version 2 are

Complete control over exactly which lesson plan shows where in the planners
Ability to have different grade weights per grading term
Ability to record minutes spent in class per student
Ability to include Credits and GPA per student
Grade Reports
Transcript for one year
Additional Lesson Planners [the "DP*" planners]
A column for Teacher’s Notes
A Journal [ Notes tab ]

These features are in addition to version 1 features

Generate a 5 day or 1 day plan
The Today sheet reminds you of the things that you entered into the calendar and the random sheet
Maintain a fluid school calendar
Keep attendance
Grades can be entered along-side of the lesson.
A running grade average is given
Each class can have up to four grade weights and extra points
Generate a course of study based on your input

    WooHoo!

    Thanks Donna!

  2. Anna says:

    Hi Donna,

Do you know if your V-Planner will work on Numbers for Mac?

I usually don’t have a problem opening Excel files but I was just double checking.

    Thank so much!

  3. Donna Young says:

Hi Anna, I wish I could tell you, but I don’t know.

  4. Leslie says:

    Hi Donna,
I am starting my 6th year of homeschool with a 7th grader and a (gasp) 9th grader. I cannot begin to tell you how much you have helped me over the years in my quest to be more organized.

I am extremely interested in your V Planner and the main thing I would like to know is whether or not lesson plans for a subject can be pushed out if we were unable to complete them that day. Would all subsequent lessons also move forward?

I am off to look at your videos…I probably should have done that before bothering you with this question!

    Thank you,
    Leslie

  5. Donna Young says:

    Hi Leslie,
Any lesson plan can be selected to show on the planners as many times as needed.

The video here Selecting Lesson shows 3 different lesson plans being selected to show on the planners. Just as easily, any of the previously selected (or unselected) lesson plans could have been selected to appear again on the planners.

Hello. I know you only ship the CD to the US. We are a homeschooling family living overseas. Any hope you might have this CD+planner available to purchase and download directly from your website?
    Thank you.
    Eli

    Hi Donna,
I want to school 3 weeks on/1 week off. Is this possible to schedule with the V Planner? Many thanks.

  8. Donna Young says:

Elina any type of schedule is possible.

  9. Angela says:

    Hi Donna!

Love your website! I have printed pages for my planner from your site for the past couple of years. I am a paper AND computer person (put it on paper first, then in the computer and maintain both :) ). What does the CD have that I’m missing on the site? Can I use the same forms that I have been using (subject planners) but fill them on the computer and then print them out?

Thank you for sharing all of your hard work! It has saved me a lot of money and a lot of headache!

    Sincerely,
    Angela

  10. Donna says:

    Hi Angela,

That’s a tough question and I’m not much of a salesman. Right off the bat, the cd has the V Planner and the doc files for the Colonial Planner – that’s two things from the planner section that the website does not have.

But right now, if you can open a word or an excel document, you can type plans in a planner before printing. Some of the planners have word versions included on the web site. =)

  11. Amanda says:

I was just on your website and would love to order the cd with the v planner on it. It said out of stock. When will it be available?

    Thanks!
    Amanda

  12. Donna says:

Amanda, I wish I could say with certainty. Normally I keep it in stock. I’m behind because of the hectic year this has been for our household.

I’m reluctant to stock the 2011 cd because I’m trying to get the 2012 cd ready. Typically that is ready by August of 2011.

The 2012 cd-rom is a time consuming project because, essentially, it is a complete do-over of the cd-rom.

Now I feel like a youth with all my excuses. =) I hope to have it ready sometime in January, hopefully early January.

  13. Heather says:

Any ETA on the 2012 Youngminds cd-rom? Thank you!

  14. Donna says:

No idea yet. A couple of time consuming things unexpectedly came up that have made me even more behind.

I’m back to working on it, but I’m not close enough to being finished to know about when I can stock it. I’m still hoping for this month.

  15. Heather says:

Is there any way I can get a copy of the 2011 CD? I’d happily forgo any benefit of the newest edition. Or even buy it twice.

  16. Heather says:

Is there any way I could just purchase the 2011 CD?

  17. Donna says:

    Heather, I emailed you.

  18. Becky says:

I would love a purchase the V-Planner. I know you are behind, but is there any up dates on when it will be out?

  19. Donna says:

    Hi Becky,

The newest v planner version itself is finished, but right now it is only on the site-cd. I’ve been redoing the cd-rom for several months and I’m hoping to have it finished in around 3 weeks.
