Be Right Back, Taking the Horse

HollyToday, Holly and I went to buy potatoes so that I can make potato salad for tomorrow’s July 4th feast. A sight that we do not see very often in this part of the USA met us – A man on a horse in a parking lot in front of a B&S [beer & smokes] store. This was so remarkable that I had no problem stopping my car right there in the lane, stopping all cars behind me so I could take a couple of pictures. The last time I was here (at Bi-Lo) I saw a man on a bicycle. That is nice and all, but not a traffic stopping, picture taking event.

  1. Way cool.

    Cheaper than gas.

  2. I am curious as to what happened next! Where did he "park" his horse? Did he go into a store and leave his lovely friend unattended? Too bad there aren`t hitching posts!

  3. Cool picture, Donna! It must be a good horsey - this saloon doesn`t have a post to tie it to!

I guess people are trying to cope with gas prices whichever way they can. Sigh - I worked out it costs me $8 just to drive to my MIL and back.

  5. That is great! laughing
I too am wondering where he tied up the horse while he went inside.

Also since the rider was going into a liquor store is it illegal to drink and ride?

  6. I wonder if his horse is namd Mustang, Ford, Chevy, Honda, or Volvo maybe Mitsubishi? Lincoln? big grin I wonder how much horse-power he has? big grin I bet it is a hybrid model and uses only organic fuel wink

  7. It probably is Heather. laughing

I was wondering the same thing about the horse being safe. The horse just stood there in the no parking zone while the guy was inside. A couple of people showed up from somewhere, maybe from one of the stores and it is possible that one of them took it upon himself to watch the horse. One guy was squatting on the sidewalk, leaning against the B&S. That is all I saw before going into the grocery store.

Sumi - $8 to drive to MIL`s and back - yikes!! eek

  13. The horse may have been trained to "ground tie". Our horses are, we tie them out in the yard to graze using those spiral things for dogs, that way you can just drop the reigns when you need to and they do wander far -- of course you cant leave them for too long. When I was a teen back in the `80s we would ride in a local National Battlefeild, there was a McD`s just past the boundary, we would actually "ride" through the drive through then go back to the park to picnic! We would also go to the Taco Bell, but they did not have a drive through.
