Border for Quilt

Quilt - yawn Part 5 of the quilt is done. Now it is time to decide what fabrics to use in the border. I have tentatively chosen some, I only hope there is enough yardage of each. On another note, John stopped by today for a haircut. He has a color guard to do tomorrow at an airport (either Knoxville or Nashville) and I showed him the quilt. I didn’t tell him that I am making it for him. He likes it. He recognized it as being like the one that a man representing the Tennessee Valley Authority bought from me 12 years ago.

Right now the quilt measures 54.5 inches. The border will be around 12-13 inches wide. It looks like the finished quilt will be 6.5 feet square. That’s boring information but when it comes time to make the border, it will help me know how long to make the border. So far it looks like I ought to make 27 feet of border just to be safe.

I am going to sleep on this. If I still like the border in the morning, I will decide on how wide to make the fabrics, especially the red part, and check yardage of the fabrics shown. If I have enough, I will start making the border.

Six and half feet is a good size for a quilt. I love big quilts. I love the red quilt you are making. Too bad John likes it. It could have been mine! mad

Yep, he likes it. The funny thing is that I am not handing it over to him asap. I`ll probably hang on to it for a few years, though I will tell him eventually that it is his, but not for the taking, yet. :) Meanwhile, I am not sure where I will hang it.

I measured the fabrics and there is enough of each one, so it looks like a go. I do not know if I will work on it today or not. I might think about the border for another day or two.

I can not believe that you won`t give it to him right away. I am glad that he likes it.

He doesn`t need it right now. it is a wall quilt and I have no idea where he would put it in his shared apartment. The important thing it that my promise to him to make him one is being fulfilled. :)

That border combined w/the corner of the quilt is just fabulous. :D I would be terrible at picking out fabric for quilts, I`d stick w/solids and there wouldn`t be the same flare as with solids mixed w/patterns.

I am glad that John likes it. I was thinking that you`d hang on to it for a Christmas gift for John. I like the idea of keeping it until he has a place for it. Perhaps when he is ready to buy a home... maybe when he meets Miss Right ;) I know there are several who`d love for John to wait for their daughters to grow up to marry. :D

Your quilt just about knocks my socks off. It is just beautiful! With your eye for colors and design and your computer knowledge, you could create some awesome quilt designs or quilt design software. yes
