checking rectangle sizeSheri wrote in her blog about Homemade Afghans Project (HAP)
HAP web address: Rectangle6x9.org. HAP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comfort to America’s military men and women wounded in service to our country. If you want to read more about HAP, you can at Rectangle6×9.org. If you cannot crochet or knit, you can still help by donating suppies to HAP. The supply list is at their website, it is titled, Wish List.

I cleared my dy workday and worked on two rectangles. I drew a 9 x 6 rectangle in my dy workbook and measured the crochet in progress by that rectangle frequently. I was a little rusty, but I managed to get two rectangles crocheted today.

Thank you Sheri for informing us about HAP.

  2. That`s a neat idea to make a template in your DY workbook. I have yarn hanging around, so I am going to give this a go. Mind if I copy your rectangle. smile

  3. Hi Donna, I plan on teaching the boys how to knit so that we will be making some squares as well. However they also want to make an afghan for them. smile We`ll see how long that lasts..... I like for my kids to learn many different arts, I even taught my oldest son how to cross stitch. I still have the 3 projects he made for me.

  4. Feel free, Applie.

Chocolatechic, there are many things I cannot do. Back-flips for instance, I can`t do those. neutral

    wink

Michielle, teaching children textile arts really does have sweet rewards, doesn`t it. Not just that they are learning something useful, but I am also thinking of the projects that they make and moms sometimes get to keep.

  6. Great minds think alike - I drew a template in my ds notebook. laughing I can`t do backflips, either. Tried once, but it did not turn out so well.

  9. Okay Donna---Jumpin aboard with the 6x9 squares!! What a neat idea!!!

This is probably a dumb question but what do you have in your DY notebook??? Looks like a composition book from the picture, would love to hear your ideas.
    Thanks Tonya
PS. Where would I be without all your help!!! Thanks again.

  10. Hi Tonya,

The DY notebook is an ordinary composition book. I am using it to keep track of re-doing donnayoung.org. smile

  11. Donna,
I just saw this. I am not getting your blog in my blog surfer thingy :embarrass:
This is so you big smile
I am crocheting them by the directions and if they do not look even I stretch the out to the same size blush You are so precise like that is an awesome idea.

  12. Please, please, DO NOT STRETCH the 6x9 retangles. That is the worse thing you can do when it comes to crocheting all the rectangles together. Simply lay the rectangle flat and then measure. Do not STRETCH to fit.

p.s. the best way to make sure your rectangles are the right size is to cut a retangle from cardboard (a ceral box works great). Simply lay your rectangle on the cardboard cut out to check size.
