Chocolate Syrup

Recipes by Donna ..|..Index | Topping

I made this recipe because I did not like the list of ingredients in store bought syrup and I didn't like its goopiness.
This chocolate syrup is good over ice cream and cakes. Additionally, the syrup can be added to hot milk to make hot cocoa. The whole recipe can be added to 4 cups of milk either hot or cold to make chocolate milk.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/3 cup water

Directions

Chocolate Syrup: Mix cocoa and sugar in small saucepan, add water. Over medium heat bring to boil. Boil 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour into jar, refrigerate

Note: This can be made in the microwave, but, it will boil over, so if you cook this in the microwave, watch it closely.

Chocolate Sauce

If you want a chocolate topping that is creamier, use these ingredients instead:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 Tablespoons water
  • 2 Tablespoons half and half, or milk, or cream
  • 2 Tablespoon butter

Directions

Directions are the same as above except stir during the 2 minute boil.

Keep both the chocolate syrup and chocolate sauce in the lidded glass jar in the refrigerator. The sauce is more perishable and try to use it up within a couple of weeks. The syrup will keep longer, but try to use it up within the month.
