WordPress.org released WordPress 2.5 a couple of days ago. The changes in this new version are numerous, but I want to talk about gravatars. WordPress 2.5 is now gravatar ready as long as your theme is gravatar enabled. I added gravatars to this blog theme and now I have a lot of this in the comments section:
I can’t believe none of my homeschool mommies have a gravatar!
I understand, that’s ok, I’ll get over it, you do not have to get a gravatar.
If you want your lovely image, whether it is your face, or a flower, or a puppy, to show up in your comments here and possibly other places not in (and including) the WordPress.com universe, then visit gravatar.com and sign up.
It works by the email address that you use when you post a blog entry. Use one of your real email addresses, the one that you use to post at blogs like this one. You will have to confirm the email – they will send you an email to make certain that you are you. Then upload an image. Attach your image to that email address and use it here to post and your picture will show up with your comment.

I am replying this so you can see a gravatar in action. 😀
Well, I went ahead and created a gravatar, actually I just used the one I use w/WP. So you should be seeing it here now as well….I hope anyway
😆
I have one.
I made an avatar for wordpress but gravatar is new to me. You are always on the cutting edge.
Still not geeky enough after all these years. 😥
LOOK at Elaine!!!
Elaine did it!!! 😀
Tanya, if you have one, where is it?? Why aren’t you using it here?
Aww Sheri, You ARE geeky enough, I just know it! 😎
Thank you Lisa
I don’t know….I am so sad.
I have one. I made one. 😥
I just now went and checked, and it has one for me.
Oh……..gravatar????????? Where is my avatar??????????
I should have one. Someone, other than me, signed me up. I wonder why he didn’t post a photo. 😕
I got mine up!
It’s not working. 😡
“Please allow 5 to 10 minutes for avatar changes to take effect”
Oh, I have to wait 5 to 10 minutes for it to work. I guess I’ll have to come back and see if it did. 🙄
Is it working? 😐
I quit!! 😡
Michelle I was going to call you, I had my phone in my hand, then my husband walked in the door, then I had to take care of stuff.
Do you have your email address that starts with a “w” associated with a gravatar? I’m asking because that is the email address that you use to post in my blog. That email address, the one that starts with “w” has to have a gravatar, unless you decide to use one of your other email addresses here. Was that wordy or what? 😎
Check it out Michelle:
Applie with an avatar
It’s your email address association.
Thanks Donna. I added the other addy, but it won’t let me add the avatar. It keeps giving me a red x. I could find anything under help, either. I’ll work with it later. 🙂
I think I got it now. 😀
Yes! Yes I am!!
coming out of lurkdom to say that those who want to use gravatars on their websites can do it even if they don’t use wordpress 2.5.
I have been using Gravatar for years now. Their are numerous plugins to aid in the use of them even if the theme itself is not gravatar ready. On my personal blog right now I am using WP 2.3.3, the same theme as you although I customized the colors, and a gravatar plugin so I didn’t have to edit the code into the theme (I was tired of doing that).
On my home school blog I upgraded to WP 2.5 today, again, this same thing customized my color and a few other things, and I have gravatars.
And for anyone having trouble getting their gravatar to work, I do believe the email address you type is case sensitive.
huh? 😮
Ok, so why when I clicked on your link did it already know my email address? That is kind of creepy. I may just have to stay in cognito.
Hi Tressa! 🙂
The email address shows up because you have a wordpress blog. Gravatar and WordPress are run by the same company.
Oh, ok. That makes sense. Maybe I will try for something later. It is a little sad that I just show up as a gray unknown.
True true! It is sad!
Hi SmockLady, your blogs look nice! 🙂 I’ve been looking over Tadlock’s new theme, it’s a nice piece of work.
