A couple of days ago, my daughter told me that she saw a commercial for the toy, “Barbie Fashion Fever Shopping Boutique Playset.” She found the commercial to be disturbing because in the commercial, the girl or girls (I didn’t see it) say,
“You never run out of money!”
So this morning I searched the internet for the toy. My daughter could not remember what the toy was called, so I entered the search term, “you never run out of money” barbie and came across one, just one, person who has complained about this online and where a search engine has picked it up. I needed more information about the toy, and I went to amazon and looked it up there. This quote is in the product description, “Swipe the Fashion Fever credit card to “pay” and find out the remaining balance on your account. But donโt fret. Once the balance hits zero, it will reset so you can continue to shop.”
The toy does not bother me a great deal, just a little. My complaint is the way the toy is advertised, that a person can shop and never run out of money. It is said to children by children. That a young person could embrace that idea is very disturbing.

Wow, where can I get one of these Fashion Fever credit cards?!
Elaine says
I’m like Shei, I want one of those cards.
Not a good concept at all. They’re just making a parent’s job even harder than it already is.

๐ That’s one toy we won’t have. Not a good teaching toy at all.

GOOD GRIEF- I miss the days when Barbie wanted to be a doctor, a pilot, a teacher.
Now she just wants to design clothes and shop with a never-ending credit limit??? ๐ฏ
I was just telling DH the other day…
I was browsing the toy area at Wally-World. Having two boys I rarely get to venture into the girly areas. I was SHOCKED to see the dolls there.
It explained so much. :embarrass:
I actually heard two girls (who looked about 9 going on 35) discussing the fact that “no real girl would be caught dead in that skirt…” (YES!) because “yeah, it’s way too long!” (NO NO NO!)

Maybe we could sue them for false advertising…we could say~ I purchased this Barbie, then went shopping and still ran out of money ๐ฎ My credit card hit zero and didn’t fill back up again like it says on the box :ooo: ….Maybe mine is broken? ๐

I just saw the commercial. Ugh! I was hoping to find it on Youtube so I could write a scathing blog post about it.
If anyone finds it or a transcript please send it my way.
Thanks
