Lab report for experiment 6.1. He did this one in first person, sort of a collection of thoughts as he looked through the microscope.

As you can see from these examples, a lab notebook can be pretty casual. Its purpose is to record how experiments were done and the findings of the experiments. Most of the time, drawings are the 'teller' of the findings. Lab notebooks are similar to journals.
